The Circus’ building dates back to 1790, but it was not until 1842 that a brewery took over to make it The Circus Tavern pub.
Barry Hayes, 52, took on The Circus in 2007 after responding to an advert in the M.E.N. that previous landlord “Greek George” had placed saying he was keen to move on.
Barry came up with the slogan “The smallest bar in Europe, but the biggest welcome in the world” which he painted on the wall outside the pub around five years ago. And it couldn’t ring more true when you enter this little gem of a pub.
